Maureen passed away peacefully with friends at her side, after her communion and prayers were given at the Alert Bay Community Health Centre. She was predeceased by her brother Alex who lived in Australia. Maureen was born in Faizabad India where she spent her younger years until the age of 14. She then moved to England and proceeded to become a registered nurse attending one of the top nursing schools. She came to Canada with her fellow nurses for a short while and then returned to England. She came back to Canada in the early 1960s to work in Oliver, where she made some lifelong friends. Alert Bay became her final home creating a large circle of close friends and work mates. Maureen was an avid reader and cook, she loved all sports, but really really adored tennis. She loved animals, especially dogs and birds and spoke of childhood pets quite often. Her closest friend Sonja and her were like an old married couple, too many funny moments to mention as you all know. We would like to thank the staff at the Cormorant Island Hospital, especially Dr. cutfeet for the wonderful compassion and care you gave to Maureen . We would especially like to thank her guardian angel, caretaker and friend Kathy for all your love and patience. There will be no formal service at Maureen's request. There will be a private gathering and spreading of ashes in the spring time.
