It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of our son, brother, uncle, nephew and cousin, Mathew Douglas Friesen.

After more than a year victory over drug addiction, Mathew succumbed to the disease on December 12th, 2017.

During this time, we saw the true Mathew shine through; Mathew had a tough exterior but only to protect his sensitive soul. He was a caring, sensitive, loving person, with a smile that would light up a room. He was intelligent and funny with a quirky sense of humour.

Mathew had numerous talents and interests among them music, drawing, cooking and astronomy. He enjoyed teasing his niece and working out at the gym with his buddies.

Mathew was born August 4, 1988 in Vancouver, BC. He moved to the Comox Valley with his family at the age of five. He attended Valley View Elementary, then Mark Isfeld Secondary in Courtenay, BC.

He is survived by his parents Roxanne and Doug Friesen, brother Anthony (Jen) niece Hailie, grandmother Elizabeth Goertzen, eleven aunts and uncles and twelve cousins.

Predeceased by his grandparents John and Olga Friesen, Walter Goertzen, uncles Randy Goertzen, Kerry Friesen, Jon Friesen and cousin Josh Friesen.

Every time we see a bright shining star, we will think of you fondly.

Until we meet again, rest in peace Mathew!

A Celebration of Life to be held on Sunday, January 14th at 2:00 pm at Piercy's Mt. Washington Funeral Home.
