In Loving Memory of Whitwill, Mary-Lou.
Mary Lou Joan Whitwill passed away peacefully in Duncan, BC after complications from Parkinson's Disease, at the age of 77. She will be dearly missed by many people around the world whose lives she has touched through her leadership, coaching and teaching.
Mary Lou represented Canada at many International competitions including the 1959 Pan Am Games. In 2010, she received the Hud Stewart Award for founding the Cowichan Aquannis Masters Swimming club in Duncan, BC, and she was president of Masters Swimming Canada from 1993-1997.
Mary Lou brought many accolades through her speed in the water to the University of Western Ontario. In 2010, she represented Canada at the Masters Long Course World Swimming Championships in seven events, placing in the top five in all. She helped the Gorging Dragon Boat Team, one of four representing Canada at the World Championships in Italy, bring home silver and a bronze medals.
In memory of Mary Lou, a donation can be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation in support of research for a cure for Parkinson's Disease.
