In Loving Remembrance ~
Sadly, the world has lost a gentle soul. Mary passed away peacefully at Rainbow Gardens on May 3, 2022, surrounded by her family.
Mary was predeceased by her parents Allan and Grace.
She is survived by Laurand her loving husband of 61 years, and their three children Cheryl, Sandra and Dave (Karen). She is also survived by five grandchildren, Daniel and Jeremy (Elissa) Brennan, and Ben, Nicola and Katie Ethier; and five great-grandchildren, Deanna, Hudson, Koen, Levi and Della Brennan.
Mary was born in Regina, Saskatchewan and moved to Port Alberni as a young girl, where she lived for most of her life. Shortly after high school Mary moved to Vancouver where she trained to be a Practical Nurse. Mary received her Practical Nursing Diploma in 1959. She returned to Port Alberni and worked at West Coast General Hospital.
In 1960 Mary married Laurand, the love of her life. They were blessed with twin daughters. Mary then became a full-time, stay-at-home mom. A year and a half later they were blessed with a son. Mom was devoted to her family.
Mom was gentle and sweet and kind. She was an excellent listener. What was important to us was important to her. Mom's nursing qualities were ever-present throughout her life in the way she cared for the people she loved. We are blessed that she was our mom.
Mom enjoyed a variety of activities. She was a great planner. She was detail-oriented and had a knack for accuracy. Mom and Dad designed and drafted the house plans for two of their houses. She enjoyed researching her genealogy, organizing wonderful family vacations, doing puzzles of all kinds, and even enjoyed doing income tax.
Everything Mom did, she did beautifully. Mom also loved jive dancing with Dad, playing cards and socializing with family and friends.
In 1982 she became a Grandma, first to two grandchildren in Port Alberni, then, 18 years later, to three more on the mainland. Mom and Dad moved to Langley to be closer to their new grandchildren. After about 12 years, they returned to Port Alberni where they got to know and enjoy their great-grandchildren even more.
We wish to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the dedicated team of wonderful people at Tsawaayuus (Rainbow Gardens) for the excellent care they gave to our mom.
Mary will be deeply missed always by her loving family.
May God hold you in his loving arms for eternity, Mom. Until we meet again. Rest in peace.
A Funeral Service was held Friday, May 6, 2022 at 11 am at Chapel of Memories - 4005 Sixth Avenue, Port Alberni.
