August 12, 1927 - September 24, 2020
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Mary.
She passed away in her sleep with her daughter at her side after a brief battle with cancer in her 94th year. She is predeceased by her parents, Daisy and William, her husband Ellis and her older brother Arthur.
She was devoted to her children and leaves behind Lorna (Bill) Bradley, David (Julie), Daniel (Jackie) and Drew (Renee). She recently visited her only surviving sibling, sister Shirley Horsman. She also leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
She was born and raised in New Westminster until high school graduation from Duke of Connaught High School in 1945. She enrolled in nursing school at St. Paul's hospital and became a Registered nurse in 1949. She was an active nurse for a few years but marriage to Ellis and raising 4 children did not allow a full time career.
She enjoyed sewing, knitting and reading. She also golfed regularly and was always an avid Blue Jays fan.
During her senior years she became heavily involved in many volunteer activities including Meals on Wheels, Loaves and Fishes, and the Chaplancy at Nanaimo Correctional Center. Her life was also focused on her faith and the congregation of Light of Christ Anglican Church.
Her passing leaves behind a large emptiness as the matriarch of our family but she is very content to begin her journey to heaven. A private family funeral is planned.
