December 21, 1939 - November 6, 2020
In memory of ~ Mary Ann Kovlaske (Taporowski).
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mom and grandma.
Mary Ann was born on her parent's farm in Buchanan, SK the oldest of three children. She resided in Nanaimo, BC.
As a young woman, she was employed in Watson, SK as a switchboard operator.
Mom broke a lot of hearts before marrying Albert Kovlaske in Port Alberni, BC and having four children.
Mary Ann spread her wings and worked as a nanny in Vernon and Nanaimo. At the age of 56, she studied and passed her GED with flying colours. She was hired at Wal-Mart as a greeter (customers will remember her as the candy lady), switchboard operator, and fitting room associate before her retirement.
Mom was exceptionally intelligent and an avid reader. She loved history, British mysteries, cooking shows, crosswords, scrabble, and solitaire.
She enjoyed watching the Blue Jays and many other sports. She was active in theatre and was proud of being a volunteer on the Nanaimo Empire Days Committee.
Instead of profanity she liked to use words like fudge, frick, putch, and smutch.
She is predeceased by her parents, John and Dora Taporowski, Albert Kovlaske, and sister-in-law Lillian Taporowski.
She is survived by her brothers, Paul (Sharon) and John and nieces and nephew; her children, Kevin, Shellie, Edmund, Richard, and her son-in-law Brian whom she considered as a fourth son. She will be missed greatly by her five grandchildren, Shalan (Nathan), Vincent (Kirbie), Torry, Sheldon, and Ryan and her two great grandchildren, Elodie and Silas.
We all love and miss her so very much. She will be always in our thoughts and forever in our hearts.
