July 19, 1944 - October 21, 2021
Martin W. R. Murray, 77, of Abbotsford, British Columbia, passed away peacefully on October 21st, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born to parents John and Irene Murray on July 19th, 1944 in London Ontario. As a young boy, Martin relocated to Vancouver, British Columbia with his parents and younger sister, Elaine Murray.
Martin was an excellent student and an even better athlete. He played semi professional football with the Vancouver Blue Bombers.
He married JoAnne, the love of his life, in May 1970, who survives him. Martin is also survived by his son John Murray and partner Jolene and his daughter Allison Lougheed and partner Cari, as well as a host of grandchildren Paisley and Pippa Murray, and Jordyn and Griffyn Dmytar.
Martin and JoAnne moved their young family to Campbell River in 1976 to work for the Bank Of Montreal. He eventually decided to strike out on his own and was self employed for many years. He was a Lifetime member of Kinsmen and had many years of fun golfing and curling. He was an armchair traveller and was fortunate to explore the world some, as well.
When Joanne retired in 2012, they left the Island Life to be close to their grandchildren in Abbotsford. Martin enjoyed his new life in Abbotsford as there were more adventures and family fun for him to pursue.
Our deepest gratitude to Dr Nader Guirguis for his compassionate care and advocacy, as well as to the caring and compassionate nurses at the Christine Morrison Hospice in Mission, British Columbia. There will be no memorial service at his request. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mission Hospice Society.
