It is with great sadness and heavy heart that I announce the peaceful passing of my mom, Martha Scherrer at the Trillium Hospice Unit in Parksville. Martha was predeceased by her loving husband and best friend of 49 years, Willy Scherrer, her mother Regina Alessandri, and her foster parents, Marie and Anton Wicki-Mondin. She is lovingly remembered by her son, Roy.

Martha was born in Zug, Switzerland on September 8th, 1924. She received her love of the mountains and wilderness from her foster father, and her compassion for others from her foster mother. After learning to become a chef and working at many hotels around Switzerland, Martha immigrated to Canada in 1956 where she worked in a restaurant in Rock Creek. After about a year, she moved to Vancouver to work at the University Club.

In 1959, Martha met and married Willy, and together they opened Cambie Swiss Pastries in South Vancouver. They operated the bakery together until their retirement in 1990.  Willy and Martha retired to their log home at the 108 Mile Ranch where they enjoyed their time with many new friends, and travelling to Terrace to visit their son. After Willy's passing, Martha decided to move to Parksville in 2012 to be closer to Roy and to enjoy the beauty of Vancouver Island during their weekend trips together. Martha loved nothing more than getting into a car, seeing the countryside, and finding a good meal.

Thank you for the care given by Dr. Maccari, Oceanside Home Support, and the staff at the Trillium Hospice Unit. Martha was always grateful of all that was done for her. I would like to acknowledge all the love and support we have received from our friends and family during this difficult transition. Special thanks to the staff at Pharmasave Parksville for giving me the time to spend with my mom.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation in the name of Martha may be made to Operation Rainbow Canada, or Milner Gardens and Woodlands.
