March 7, 1924 - December 30, 2019
Marjorie Joan Cargill of Sidney passed away on December 30, 2019, at the age of 95. Marjorie grew up in Torquay, on the south coast of England, and always felt most at home near the ocean. In the late 1940s, she emigrated to Canada, where she met and married a fellow British expat, Eric Cargill. Eric joined the RCAF and was posted to Europe, where they traveled extensively and where all three of their daughters were born. They returned to Canada permanently in 1965 and lived for many years in Ottawa. Once the girls were grown, Eric and Marjorie took to traveling again, and enjoyed many trips together to destinations including Britain, Europe, Hawaii, and the Caribbean. When Eric retired, they returned to the West Coast and settled in Sidney. Here they enjoyed an active life for many years, and Marjorie continued her daily walks into town for coffee until very recently.
Marjorie is survived by her daughters Sue (Dan) Bishop, Pam (Charlie) Schrama, and Louise (Hermann) Bruns, and grandchildren Kyle, Hilary, Will, Martin, Andrew, Ari, and Elena. Her husband, Eric, died in 2016.
Marjorie's family is grateful to caregivers and family friends Margie Johnsen and Roy Neville, longtime friend Shirley Fisher, and the staff of Saanich Peninsula Hospital for their kindness and support. In accordance with her wishes there will be no service; a private family gathering is planned for a later date.
