December 21, 1924 - March 27, 2021
Mary (Maria) Domenica Brett, daughter of Felix Cillis and Rosantonia Spagnuoli Cillis, was born in Vancouver on December 21, 1924. She lived a wonderful, active life on the rain coast, loved by her extended family and many friends. She painted and cooked and gardened and fished and hunted and camped with her late husband, Leonard Francis Brett. Mary passed away at ll:47 p.m., at the age of 96, on March 27, with her youngest son, William at her side, holding her hand.
She was precious not just to her descendants, but to her friends and the community of Comox, as well as the kind staff at Glacier View Lodge.
Mary is survived by her three sons: Leonard (Maureen), Brian (Sharon), William (Caroline), and her grandchildren; Tristan (Jessica), Sheldon (Chyna), Chris (Nancy), Roben (Sovanny), and great grandchildren Haiden and Tanner, Kylie and Jenna, Ajra and Aubrey, and Tejah. Plus a loving, cavalcade of nieces and nephews.
Her life was long and she left many memories of great fishing expeditions, banana cream pie, and focaccia. She also played a mean game of cards, including a legendary game she invented, known with some bemused awe as "Comox Rummy."
Thank you mother, from your sons, and your many descendants and friends.
There will be a private outdoor memorial for the immediate family in North Vancouver at 1:00 p.m. on April 24th. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to local charities.
