February 21, 1925 - December 27, 2020
Survived by daughters Cristine/ Brian, Janet/ Deane, son Robert/ Doreen, grandchildren Janine, Lauri, Ryan, Maddy and Robbie, great grandchildren Ashley, Caitlin, Jordan, Jude and Isla.
Marguerite (Rita to most) was born in Winnipeg and spent most of her childhood and young adult life in Manitoba (Winkler, LaRiviere) playing numerous sports- skiing, tennis and softball.
During the war she worked as an assistant to the president of Canada Cement in Winnipeg. After the war she met the love of her life Rob Mackay who had just left the Navy. Marguerite and Rob moved to Vancouver Island and started married life living in a converted railway car in Ladysmith. They rose from this humble start to Nanaimo, building three homes there.
During the early 70's they moved to Gold River, spending 16 yrs really enjoying the outdoors and close community. After retirement they moved to Northwest Bay building a beautiful home on the beach.
Sadly Rob passed away in 1996 and Marguerite moved into Parksville where she volunteered at the SOS and helped look after some of her grandchildren. Unfortunately in her mid 80's she started to suffer from Alzheimer's/Dementia and required care, she moved to Qualicum Manor and lived there approximately 11yrs. The care she received at the manor was wonderful and many of the staff became her second family.
