January 10, 1932 – June 13, 2021
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts we said goodbye to our Mom, Grandma, GG and great great grandma on June 13th, in Campbell River.
Mom was born January 10th, 1932, in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan to Leo and Margaret Hamling. She moved with her parents and sister to Courtenay in 1941 and shortly after they all welcomed twin brothers, Bill and Bob.
Growing up in Courtenay, Mom worked at various jobs. She met and married Richard “Tucker” James in 1951, and they resided in Cumberland where they raised their family.
After the kids were off on their own, they moved to Port Coquitlam where Dad was employed with BC Hydro. They lived there for 15 years and made many close friends.
The Island drew them back and they retired to Courtenay in 1987 where they built their dream home. Sadly, Dad passed away in 1988 and Mom moved to her Patio Home where she spent 25 comfortable years. She had wonderful neighbours and everybody took good care of each other. Mom could be seen almost everyday walking the neighbourhood with her good friend Rae.
Mom looked forward to and enjoyed meeting up with her Thursday night Cinch group. She loved playing cards with her friends any chance she had. Mom’s visits with family were always a highlight for her, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always insisted that she prepare them a meal or a snack, which gave her great joy.
She never missed a birthday or Xmas, making sure everybody always had a little something. Mom had many dear friends all of whom supported her in many ways and were there for her right up until her final days.
We would like to thank the home care workers in Courtenay that helped Mom while she was sill at home. Many thanks to all the staff on Coastal East at Yucalta Lodge for giving Mom such compassionate care and love.
Mom is predeceased by parents Leo and Margaret Hamling, husband Richard “Tucker” James, son Richard James Jr., sister Helen and brother-in-law Stan Cresswell, sister-in-law Joan Hamling, and nieces Jessica Hamling and Bryanna Hamling.
Survived by and greatly loved and missed by daughters Vicki (Lane), Norma (Hugh), brothers Bill Hamling, Bob Hamling, grandchildren: Kurtis (Lisa), Kerri (Wes), Aaron (Leanne), Ryan, great grandchildren: Bradon, Jonathon, Jade, Shaemon, Andrew, Julia, Hannah and Jocelyn, great great grandson Elijah, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Rest in Peace now Mom… you fought a long brave battle. We will love you always and forever.
