Margaret Rose Boyd passed away peacefully on December 8, 2020 while residing at Resthaven Lodge in Sidney, BC. She was pre-deceased by her husband George Alan Boyd with whom she was married for 54 years. She leaves behind her 3 sons, Ian, George, Jamie, and granddaughters Rysha and Michelle, as well as her great grandson Leo.
Margaret was born in Stockport, England on August 24, 1932. She and Alan married in 1953. This courageous young couple emigrated to Canada in 1957 along with their young son Ian. A brave new start in a young and developing country far from England and all the comforts and familiarity it held. She and Alan worked hard to put down roots and establish a new life.
Margaret was endlessly industrious. Once she retired from her working life, she actively volunteered with numerous organizations in and around Sidney. Included, were the BC Cancer Agency, Red Cross blood donor clinics, Thrifty Foods Sendial Program, and the Sidney Sister Cities Association. Margaret was one of the original Mary Winspear Volunteers, serving at the Centre from September 2001 to June 2018.
She loved volunteering at Mary Winspear and she never said no if asked to help out. Margaret attended Highway Christian Fellowship since 2006. She will be remembered as the lady with an infectious smile who brought joy to the many she greeted at church services.
She was also a master of hospitality both in her home and in the homes of others. She definitely became well known around town. Unfortunately, as her health declined, her dedication to service finally came to an end.
When it's once again safe to travel, her ashes will be laid to rest in the Boyd burial plot at the Inveresk Church yard in Musselburgh, Scotland. By request, there will be no service. If you wish, in lieu of flowers, kindly make donations to the BC Cancer Agency, Alzheimer's Society, or the Palliative Care Unit at Saanich Peninsula Hospital.
