March 30, 1926 - November 24, 2022
In loving memory ~
It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of our mother Marg, who died peacefully, but suddenly, at the Nanaimo Hospital.
Marg was born in Merville and grew up with a simple life, on a small farm, along with her two sisters. She met her husband Ken in Courtenay, where they were married on June 14, 1948. They settled in Saltair in 1959, to a home on the beach, where they raised their family and enjoyed their life on the water.
Marg and Ken both lived a life of service to their church and their community. She was a devoted member of the Catholic Women's League for more than 65 years. They were charter members of the Ladysmith Yacht Club and long-standing members of Mt. Brenton Power and Sail Squadron. Along with numerous boating friends, they enjoyed many years exploring the B.C. coast in their classic wooden powerboat (MV Hull Island).
Marg was genuinely interested in people from all walks of life and had a knack for encouraging them to share their stories. She loved and was loved by so many. The outpouring of grief for her passing and admiration for her generous spirit has been almost overwhelming.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Ladysmith Urgent Care Centre for their kindness and respectful attention while caring for our mom during her final hours.
Marg is predeceased by her husband Ken, the love of her life (2012), her son Brian (1971), son Terry (2020), sister Evelyn Hurford (2009) and sister-in-law Moira (HO) Mulholland (2018).
She will be missed by her son Mike (Dorothy), daughter Kathy (Carolyn), sister Pat, daughters-in-law Susan and Dianne, granddaughter Leigh (Byron) and Leigh's mother Sheila, grandsons Steven and Matthew, great-grandchildren Colten and Hannah, and other extended family members, numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church (Ladysmith) on December 6th at 10:30 a.m., followed by a reception tea at the church hall, to honour the memory and spirit of Marg's life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Haven's Society in Nanaimo, PO Box 37086, 38-3200 Island Highway Nanaimo, B.C. V9T 6N4.
Arrangements by Telford's, Ladysmith, B.C.
