In loving memory ~
Margaret passed peacefully in her sleep at her residence in the Nanaimo Memory Care Center, December 20th, 2021. She is survived by her sons Frank & Tony, her daughter-in-laws Audrey and Tori, and her grandchildren, Christopher and Claire.
Margaret was born in Vancouver, BC and attended Provincial Normal School for teacher training immediately after finishing high school. Her first teaching position was in a Vancouver School District grade 4 classroom at Van Horne Elementary, with 48 students, one year later. According to Mum, she earned her stripes there. Five years later she took time off to have children. When Frank & Tony were established in school, and with the help of her mother Mary McConnell, she went back to teaching in 1965 at Maywood Elementary, Burnaby where she flourished. The family moved to Qualicum Beach in June 1971 and Margaret secured a job in the one room school in Hilliers where she taught for two years. After Hilliers Elementary closed, Margaret taught at Qualicum Elementary until her retirement in 1987.
As a mother, Margaret will be remembered for her devotion to her family and her blossoming as an individual upon her purchase of her home on Berwick Road North in 1977. As a respected and loved teacher, she was recognized for being a master of the profession.
There will be a memorial service & reception at the Church of the Ascension, 887 Wembley Road, Parksville on Saturday, August 20th at 11:30 a.m.
