With heavy hearts and sorrow, our family announces the passing of Peg Brownie at the Nanaimo General Hospital on Saturday, December 14, 2019, at the age of 72 years. Remaining to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 25 years, Jim; her brother Barry Wilwand (Laureen), Patricia Ross (Alex) and many dear nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Peg was predeceased by her parents Gladys and William Wilwand.
Peg, who was a vivacious and loving person with a great sense of humour, was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. There, she enjoyed many friendships, trips to the cabin at Sunnyside in Keewatin, Ontario and quality time with her family. She moved to Vancouver, BC in 1990 where she was hired at Fraser Port Authority where her colleagues quickly became friends. She met her future husband Jim that year. They were married in September of 1994 on an Alaskan cruise ship.
After retiring a decade ago, she and Jim moved from Surrey to Nanaimo. They quickly made friends in their new community and are known in the neighbourhood as having the best Christmas displays and hosting many gatherings. Peg and Jim and their beloved dog, Levi, have thoroughly enjoyed camping in their retirement years, frequenting several locations with the RV club. Peg had many interests including a lifelong passion for swimming and telling jokes and stories. Before Peg passed, she celebrated her 25th wedding anniversary with a California cruise, including fulfilling a long time dream with a visit to Disneyland.
A celebration of Peg's life will take place at the church hall at 2424 Glen Eagle Crescent on Monday, Jan. 20 from 1 to 4 p.m.
As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations in Peg's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
