In Loving Memory ~

Lois was born in Vancouver and passed away on Friday, September 13, 2024, at the Aitken Hospice in Courtenay, BC.

Lois was predeceased by her husband Vic in June, 2018 and her daughter, Barbara in April, 1985.

She is survived by her children, Arlene, Sharon (Jeff) and Stephen, and her granddaughters Sarah (Bradley), Jordan, Gabriela, Tayler and Erin (Christopher). She also leaves behind a large extended family here in British Columbia.

Lois began her teaching career in Kitimat at the age of 18 where she met Vic. They moved their young family to Courtenay in the summer of 1967 when Vic started teaching at the newly opened GP Vanier Senior Secondary School. When her children were older, Lois began teaching again, spending time at Courtenay, Puntledge and Glacier View Elementary Schools.

For many years she was President of the Chimo Gymnastics Club and a director at the C.R.A. Lois was an accomplished seamstress and spent many of her retired years sewing dance costumes for her granddaughters. She also participated in the Salvation Army Jeans Project where she converted many pairs of old denim jeans into bags and quilts, and most recently spent every Wednesday helping out with the Sonshine Lunch Club at St. Georges United Church.

For her years of volunteering and work within the community, the City of Courtenay named her one of the "100 Citizens of the Century" in 2015.

A memorial service will be held at St. Georges United Church on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at 2:00 pm
