In Loving Memory ~
"Marg lived a good life and did a lot for those around her."
Margaret Kenny was born in Nanaimo B.C. on May 9th, 1927 to Thomas and Margaret Naylor. Marg was one of seven children born and raised straight across the street from the Nanaimo Railroad Station on Prideaux Steet.
Marg excelled in all aspects of school with the ability to score 100% on her spelling exams. Her father kept all kinds of pets and birds including, for a time, Charlie the Monkey who, apparently, could be a handful!
Marg's first job was with the Scotts Bakery where she was known for forming buns and loaves faster than any other employee. She and her friends also attended local dances at the Pygmy Dance Hall where many Big Bands of the era would perform. This is where Marg met her husband-to-be, Robert Emmett Kenny who was over from the mainland constructing a cabin at Stephenson Point for his father.
The story goes that Bob, still dressed in his work clothes, spotted Marg as he entered the hall, walked over and asked her to dance. Her friends were a little shocked at the situation, however, it must have been love at first sight. Bob walked Marg home that night and under the moonlight was able to write down Marg's address stating he would love to see her again - and he did.
Bob and Marg were married on November 10th, 1948 in Haney, B.C. where Bob was serving as a Constable on the B.C. Provincial Police Force. Their First son Bradley was born there and within a year or so the three of them moved back to Marg's hometown of Nanaimo. Bob constructed houses while Marg kept house, and over the next few years along came two more boys, Bruce and Chris.
Marg loved to take care of her husband and growing sons, and there was not a day when the kitchen didn't smell of wonderful home baking and hearty and delicious meals. So much so that Marg was known far and wide for her variety of home-baked cookies, cakes and bread... and of course, Sunday evening Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding dinner shared with Marg's bachelor brothers and friends was a family tradition.
Bob and Marg kept a large group of friends who enjoyed going out to dances and putting on creative dinner parties at one another's homes. This group of about 20 couples maintained their friendships for more than 30 years. Another testament to Marg and Bob's love for living well was packing up the tent trailer, the 3 boys and a homemade canoe, and relocating to MacFarland's Campsite on Osoyoos Lake for 6 weeks each summer to bask in the sun - unheard of during the 1960s but one of the benefits of Bob being self-employed.
Unfortunately, Bob passed away in 1998 leaving Marg far too soon. Marg did her best to carry on keeping the family home in order and did a splendid job which Bob would have been proud of.
Margaret passed away February 8th, 2023 at the age of 95 and is survived by her three sons Brad, Bruce and Chris, their respective wives Heather, Yvette and Kim - along with 4 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and her loving youngest sister Betty-Ann Feltrin.
There will be no Public Funeral or Service.
