March 8, 1936 - April 1, 2021
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Catherine Hackett on April 1, 2021. Margaret was born in Glasgow, Scotland, on March 8, 1936.
Margaret emigrated to Canada in 1955 and worked at the oil refinery in Port Credit, Ontario, where she met the love of her life, Norman Hackett. Margaret and Norm were married on April 11, 1959 and recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
They had three children, Lynne (Darren), Brenda (John) , and Stuart (Gillian). The Hackett family moved to Victoria in 1965, and Margaret and Norm made many life-long friends, including Marie and Rennie Heckert, and Marg and Norm Trace, and enjoyed many years of camping and boating together.
Margaret enjoyed needlepoint, knitting and quilting, and we will treasure the home-made Christmas decorations and quilts forever. Margaret volunteered with Beacon Services at the Thrift Shop in Sidney, and with the BC Cancer Society as a driver, and made some wonderful friends through her volunteering.
She leaves to mourn her husband Norm, her children, seven grandchildren (Taylor, Mallory, Veronica, Daniel, Claire, Emily and Ethan) and one great grandson (Kaiden - and another on the way!), and dear brother David (Olga). Thank you to the compassionate and caring staff at Saanich Peninsula Hospital, especially the palliative care unit.
There is no celebration of life scheduled at this time.
