It is with great sadness that Troy Turner and Kimberley Akow, share the news of our mother's passing on the afternoon of August 11, 2022, after a battle with cancer. She passed peacefully at home, surrounded by her children.
Marcia was a graduate of Simon Fraser University, Wilfred Laurier University, and Conestoga College of Applied Arts and Technology, a BC Ferries employee for 23 years, a Comox Town Counsellor for a total of 12 years between1990-1996 & 2005-2011, a dedicated Comox Museum employee up until her very last days, and a member of the now dissolved Friends of the Comox-Lazo Forest Reserve Society.
She was a wonderful, loving, and doting grandmother to her only grandchild Finnley and is survived by her son Troy and his partner Julia from Prince George, as well as her daughter Kimberley, her husband Joshua Akow, and their son Finnley from Langford. Her passion for life and causes near and dear to her heart, her endless energy for dog walks, travel, and swims at the beach, her fierce independence, and her tenacious spirit will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Our Mother was a staunch environmentalist and a great lover of animals and although there will be no service by request, we ask that anyone who feels called to do so, donate to an environmental or animal charity of their choice in her name.
