January 14, 1928 - December 26, 2020
Jan 14, 1928 - Dec 26, 2001.
At Nanaimo General Hospital. He was diagnosed in November and was caught off guard and tried hard to fight, but to no avail, as the cancer had taken
hold.
He is survived by his wife Giovanna and children Renata (David), Giuliana.
Luigi arrived in Halifax in 1954 after being invited to apply for immigration to Canada. This began a new adventure. After arriving he worked for the railroad and slowly made his way to Vancouver Island.
Once settling in Port Alberni he began his career at Port Alberni MacMillan Bloedel Plywood Division.
In 1960 his wife Giovanna arrived and they planned their future, building a house, and having 3 children.
He worked hard and self taught himself how to work with concrete, wood and timber.
After a few years the family moved to Qualicum Beach in 1969 and made home on a little hobby farm. From there Luigi would still commute to Port Alberni for work, ensuring the winter roads on the Port Alberni Summit aka, The Hump.
While on the farm he raised many animals, beef/dairy cows, pigs, chickens, geese, rabbits, ducks, goats and honey bees.
Tried his hand at bee keeping and made some great honey, not qithout getting stung a few times, ouch.
The family worked hard clearing the land, picking rocks, falling trees, cutting and chopping wood, turning soil, helping friends bale hay, and working and milking the cows by hand.
He loved his times visiting with friends while in Port Alberni, enjoying wine, food and engaging in robust conversations.
Once in Qualicum Beach his visits with Rico and friends was always something he looked forward to.
It will be 20 years since you left and it still feels like yesterday.
Although we talk with you and visit your place, we hope you can hear and see us and realize that after all is said and done,
We know it wasn't easy at times but, We do miss you and appreciate the things you accomplished.
We will be holding out our hand when it is time to meet again.
Till then, keep listening and watching......
