June 4, 1922 - August 21, 2022
In Loving Memory ~
Lucienne "Mama" Casanova was born in Belgium (Grivegnée) on the 4th of June, 1922, and died in Courtenay on August 21, 2022 at the age of 100 years old. She spent her early life in boarding schools while her father and mother were in the Belgian Congo developing the Katanga Railway. She survived WWII and helped the cause by ways of contraband and caring support.
She later met our father in Caracas, Venezuela and a beautiful love story began. They then moved to Montreal, Canada and started a family. She was employed as a head accountant in an upstart labour union where she would remain until her retirement in 1988. They then decided to leave the city life and joined the "boys" in Cold Lake, Alberta. She was known as Mama in the military community where her sons and friends worked. By 1995 Mama left Cold Lake for the blue waters of Comox, BC. She immediately fell in love with the valley. An avid ora and fauna enthusiast, she was mesmerized about the Comox deers and loved her crows. She volunteered for L'association Francaise as a treasurer and received many accolades from her peers.
She is pre-deceased by her husband Virginio, sisters Louise and Yvonne, brother Pierrot, parents Irma and Pierre. Left behind are sons Luciano (Suzanne), Virginio (Susanna), daughter Solange, and grandchildren Giacomo, Natalia, Samantha, Marisa and Lionel.
We would like to thank the doctors, nurses, HCA, and VIHA personnel for their help. We would also like to thank Father André-Marie Mboumba, The Catholic Women's League, the pallbearers, and everyone that paid their respects.
Donations can be made to the BC SPCA.
Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Thursday August 25th, 2022 from St. Michael's and All Angels Church, 19 Wing, Comox, followed by interment of her urn on Friday, August 26th at Courtenay Civic Cemetery.
