In loving memory ~
It is with a heavy heart that we must announce that our beloved wife, sister, aunt, cousin and friend has passed away after suffering the ravages of cancer for over three years. She faced her illness with dignity and grace and she was brave right up the end of her life. Her concern was about how her illness was impacting others and not herself which is indicative of who she was. Lorraine loved life, family and friendship. She enjoyed travel to Europe, Central America, the Caribbean and the many years spent avoiding a Canadian winter in La Quinta California. She was a trusted and loyal friend and an essential part of her strong and devoted family.
Lorraine leaves behind her husband Rob, siblings Pat, Mike (Nicole), Linda (Bob), Steve (Cindy) and John (Vivian), her cherished Mother-in-law Dot and brother-in-law Don. She will also be missed by the many nieces, nephews and cousins she loved and a long list of treasured friends. She was predeceased by her parents Don and Dorothy and her brother Neil.
Born in East York (Toronto) Ontario she and her family lived in several Ontario towns before the family moved one-by-one to Calgary with Lorraine following them in 1981. Lorraine had a long and well respected career in insurance in Calgary. She and Rob married in 1999 and then in 2010 they moved to her dream home on Vancouver Island where she lived for the rest of her days. While in her new home Lorraine was an avid golfer and was a founder of the Saratoga Ladies Club. She also had a few large groups of friends with whom she shared her laughter, her love of life and maybe a bloody Caesar or two. Lorraine was the designated grass cutter at home. She loved getting on the tractor with a strong, extra spicy Caesar and headphones. She would sing, smile and have a wonderful time. Our great neighbours would often laugh at her singing.
Lorraine will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Her laughter and her support of those she knew endeared her to the many who will all mourn her passing. She had the unique ability to light up a room when she entered and to bring fun, friendship and a sense of camaraderie to those around her. All are heartened to know that the pain and suffering she endured in the last weeks of her life are over and she now rests in peace.
The family wants to thank the many skilled medical professionals in departments throughout the Campbell River Hospital and with VIHA who helped Lorraine in her health struggles. From the lab to the ICU and from imaging to Cancer Care Lorraine received excellent, professional and highly compassionate care. There are many to thank but Doctors Morrison, Noel and Grace and others named Gina, Jordan, Emma, Eddy, Rebecca, Tammy and Andrea especially deserve mention.
As her husband I will sorely miss my gorgeous girl. She was my rock and my soul mate and she made me a much better person. She taught me how to love and to be grateful for every day we were together. Thank you Lorraine for the many years of love and support that you gave me each and every day.
At Lorraines request there will be no service. The family are gathering to celebrate her life, to mourn her death and to be grateful for having had her in their lives.
Yes, sadly we miss her, and try not to grieve;
A little while longer we too must leave,
To meet her on that beautiful shore
Where parting's unknown and life's evermore.
