In Loving Memory ~
It is with great sadness that the family of Loraine Agnes Pilon (née Tugwell) announce her passing on Friday, October 28, 2022 at the age of 74.
Loraine was born to Vonda and Thomas (Bud) Tugwell in Tofino, BC, on July 12, 1948. "Loraine the Brain", as some of her young friends called her, grew up as an exemplary student, being particularly gifted in mathematics.
Growing up, and throughout her life, she cherished going to the beach, spending time with friends and family, and dancing late into the night at the community dances.
After completing high school as Valedictorian in 1966, she moved to Vancouver where she received a degree in mathematics from the University of British Columbia. She didn't spend much time in Vancouver, however, as the lure of family and small town life brought her back to Ucluelet, where she had a successful career as an accountant, at the Ucluelet Coop and Pacific Rim National Park.
During that time, Loraine continued to value quality time with the people she loved and developed a passion for travel. In 1984, Loraine gave birth to her daughter Mary, who she cherished greatly. Her family continued to grow when she married Brian Pilon in 1990, who had a son named Corey.
In 1998, Loraine retired and moved with her family to an acreage in Wembley, Alberta. She did not sit still in retirement and continued to be busy as an active member of her church and local community groups.
After her loving husband passed in 2019, Loraine moved back to Vancouver Island, to Qualicum Beach, where she would be closer to her remaining family.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Mary Pilon; stepson, Corey Pilon; brother, Rick Tugwell; as well as numerous relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Brian Pilon; and her parents, Vonda and Thomas Tugwell.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm, on Monday, November 14th, at St. Edmund's Anglican Church , 407 Wembley Road, Parksville, BC. Loraine will be laid to rest in the Ucluelet Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial Donations may be made in Loraine's name to the Wild Pacific Trail Society, Box 572, Ucluelet, BC, V0R 3A0, Canada.
