October 7, 1924 – October 28, 2023
In loving memory ~
On October 28th, 2023, our dad, granddad and great-granddad left this earth to join God and his loved ones that left before him.
Dad was born to Edith and Penman Dool in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. He was the 8th of 12 children. Even though Dad grew up during the Depression, he would say that he had a good childhood. His large family was very close and supportive. Dad’s sister Iris is the only surviving sibling. Dad maintained a very strong work ethic that he passed on to his children. He believed in fairness, hard work, and punctuality. He loved to fix things and took great pride in his ability to remodel and maintain his homes.
Dad proudly served in the Navy from 1944 to 1946 and was stationed in Halifax. He chose to leave the Navy and return home as his beautiful bride-to-be, Peggy Egglesfield, who was anxiously waiting for him. Mom and Dad were busy raising their four children when they made their big move to Port Alberni, Dad, being a machinist, found work at the pulp and paper mill where he remained until his retirement. Our parents loved to socialize and made friends easily, they enjoyed dancing, playing cards and bowling.
They shared 32 wonderful years together until mom’s cancer diagnosis and subsequent death in 1978. Dad’s faith was extremely important to him and after mom’s passing even more so. It was his involvement with the church that brought him and his second wife, Helen Irving together. They were married in 1981. Happiness returned to his life, and it was wonderful to see them living and loving life to the fullest.
Unfortunately, tragedy struck in 2003 when Helen passed away suddenly. With resilience, family and his faith, Dad moved forward. Maintaining friendships and duties with the Church. On Dad’s 90th birthday, he had a fall that resulted in him being in a wheelchair, this precipitated his move to Echo Village where he made the best of every day and maintained much of his independence to the end.
To the staff at Echo Village, we thank you for the 9 years Dad was in your care, he made several special friends with both staff and residents. Our families would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation for the exceptional care shown to both Dad and ourselves during his final week.
Lloyd was predeceased by his daughter Wendy in 1998 and is survived by his children, Verl-Lee (Bob), Jack Dool (Evelyn), and Jill Corbeil (Ron). He also leaves behind 9 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
A celebration of Dad’s life will be held at the Christian Reformed Church, 5033 Roger St. Port Alberni on November 10th at 1:00 PM. Tea to follow, everyone is welcome.
