March 25, 1927 - June 5, 2020
Some people in the lives they lead set examples for the rest of us to follow.
Lillian was one such person. She was a devoted mother, spouse, grandmother, great grandmother, auntie, compassionate friend and an intellectually stimulating person. All of us who knew her, family and friends, enjoyed our conversations with her.
Lillian was born in Lethbridge, Alberta to Robert and Ellen (nee Brown) Thomson. Predeceased by her husband Ray Matson, a sister Margaret and a brother Robert.
She is survived by her partner Frank, son Terry (Cheryl), daughter Leslie (David), grandchildren Jason, Nicole (Ross), Arin (Brad), Leigh (Clayton), and four great- grandchildren Seth, Carson, Olivia and Mya. Also nieces Beverley, Laurel, Denise, nephew Jay, step granddaughter Lori and several extended family members.
Lillian was an avid reader, crossword puzzler, fantastic gardener, seamstress and she dabbled in water colours. She was probably best known for being an extraordinary cook who still had dinner parties up to the end and often would deliver, to certain people, containers of homemade soup and her famous cookies. The winters she spent in Hawaii with Ray were one of her fringe benefits of life.
Lillian moved to Duncan in 1970 and all of her family followed her within a couple of years. Lillian was a very outspoken person and tried to keep us all in line, sometimes to no avail, but always through the heart. Her time as a parishioner at St. Peter's Anglican Church was precious to her.
She could be generous to a fault and was active and young at heart her whole life and seemed tireless to us all.
We will miss her smile, laugh, sense of style and all the idiosyncrasies that made her who she was. So go in peace, you have earned your sleep, your love in our hearts, we will eternally keep.
Thank you to all the doctors and nursing staff at Cowichan District Hospital for all your help and understanding, care and compassion. It is greatly appreciated.
A Celebration of Lillian's life to be announced at a later date when we can all once again gather and celebrate her life.
