With heavy hearts we share the news of Cyss' passing on Tuesday, December 19, 2017.

She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Ralph; daughters, Debbie (Ken) and Terri (Robert); grandchildren, Brett (Zita), Amy, Alex, and Jesse; sister, Yvette; dear friend, Margo Barnes; as well as many friends and extended family members.

Cyss was predeceased by her parents, Irma and Cecil Smith; and sister, Vivian Smith.

Cyss was an amazing role model for her children and grandchildren by going back to high school at Qualicum Beach High School as a young mother. Her education led to her becoming a successful Oceanside realtor for more than 30 years. She very much enjoyed watching her clients fall in love with their dream homes and playing a small role in creating joy in their lives.

Cyss was an amazing cook and shared this passion with her daughters. She enjoyed hosting large Ukrainian dinners for family and friends. She had a green thumb; her yards were always perfectly manicured and looked like a botanical garden. She and Ralph spent many happy hours watching the hummingbirds and relaxing on their patio.

Cyss was a doting "Nanny" to her four beloved grandchildren. She was once a naughty nanny - bringing home a puppy for the grandkids. She spoiled the families' beloved pets - the fur babies - and loved them as much as she loved her family.

She and Ralph enjoyed travelling together; many cruises; their time-share in Mexico; their winter home in Mesa; their European vacation; and travelling in their motorhome. Cyss was an avid country music fan and a regular at Sunfest.

Cyss' kindness and generosity, both in business and in her personal life, means she leaves behind many friends mourning her passing. She dearly valued her family and friends and because of this she will be missed and loved always.

The family would like to thank Dr. Waite and Dr. Van der Weyde for their excellent care and compassion during  Cyss' illness.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 6th at the Catholic Church of the Ascension, 887 Wembley Road in Parksville.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honour Cyss' memory may do so by making a donation in her name to Trillium Hospice.
