In Loving Memory ~ Lewis George Stephen passed away at home on September 30, 2021. Born September 12, 1929, Lew lived all 92 years of his life in Port Alberni.
He was predeceased by his parents Lewis and Beatrix from Fraserburgh, Scotland; sisters, Christina and Helen; brothers, Bill and John "Bud".
Lew is survived by his wife of 70 years, Shirley; his children Gary (Laurel), Bill (Cathy), Carol and Gayle (Rick); his 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and his elder sister, Lexie.
Lew followed in his family's footsteps learning to play the bagpipes as a child. When he was older he became immersed in the Big Band era, playing the clarinet and saxophone in a jazz band.
In 1962, Lew co-founded Stephen's Sheet Metal with his brother Bud. What started as a small family business, quickly became a pillar of the community, providing necessary services to homes and industries for decades.
Lew was a long-time member of the Gyro of the Albernis and Alberni Golf Club. Upon his 90th birthday he was awarded an honorary membership to the Club alongside his lifelong friend, Jim Sawyer.
In his retirement, Lew continued designing and creating. He could fix anything and always had a project on the go. As with his music, business and life, he approached everything with artistry, determination and attention to detail.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the WCGH Emergency Department Expansion Project.
