February 5, 2020
Church, Lester (Charles) died peacefully and surrounded in the love of friends and family on February 5th, 2020. Lester was predeceased by his son, Noah in 2000 and his sister Desiree in 2018.
Lester lived from one adventure to the next ... sailing the high seas, traveling the world's jungles and climbing it's mountains. His spirit was kind and gentle and he collected friends, who often became family, everywhere he went. He could juggle and ride a unicycle and he loved dessert. He was a yogi, a sailor, a taxi driver and a hippie with a heart of gold.
Living with cancer for the last eight years did not slow Lester down one bit. His old Dodge van retires with 317,000 kms; after taking him safely across the United States and to and from South America twice.
Lester died in Saanich Peninsula Palliative care - after no less than three previous discharges over the last four years. Dr Charles Lamb and the amazing nurses and volunteers of this very special place on earth, treated Lester to the best of care and the kindest of comfort over the last several months. A heartfelt thank you also to Kirsten Davies for her music therapy and the great joy this brought Lester during his time at SPH.
In Lester's parting words: "You say Goodbye, I say Hello".
There will be a gathering to celebrate Lester's life on Summer Solstice, June 20, 2020. Location and details to follow at a later time.
