November 12, 1930 - January 26, 2024
In Loving Memory ~
Our dear Les went gently to his heavenly home on January 26, 2024 at the age of 93.
He is survived by his loving wife Joyce, daughters Valerie, Maelene, Paula (Pose), grandchildren Shoshanah, Siaki and Caleb, and son Tim (Miranda), as well as his sisters Margaret and Irene(Dave). Parents Louis and Esther, siblings Lou, Gabe, Emil and Esther have gone on before.
Les was born on November 12, 1930 in Kipling, SK, just 6 months after the family arrived from Hungary. Les grew up working the farm with his siblings in the prairies and then on the second family farm in West Lorne, ON.
He spent his adult years in Christian ministry, first at Prairie Bible College in the print shop, and then at Camp Homewood on Quadra Island, where he moved in 1961. There, he met and married Joyce Strom.
Over their nearly 60 years together, they raised their family and served faithfully in a multitude of roles at Homewood. Les loved working outdoors and contributing to such a mission-driven, service-oriented community. He was a dedicated and inventive man of many talents, who continued to be active at Homewood until just a few years ago.
We wish to thank the staff of Island Health Home Care, Dr. Keith Graham, our Quadra Island Bible Church family, and our Camp Homewood family for the remarkable care and support they have so readily provided for both Les and Joyce throughout the years and especially during these past few months.
All are welcome to a memorial service at Camp Homewood on February 18, 2024 at 2:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Camp Homewood's Well Project in honour of Les' 62 years of service would be appreciated. Les would be so pleased.
