Lavon F. "Vonnie" Willton, passed away peacefully at age 95 on June 02, 2022 in Dufferin Place, Nanaimo, BC. Born to William and Jessie Dunlap in their family home July 10, 1926 in Red Willow, Alberta.
Vonnie married and came to Qualicum Beach, BC in 1946 where she had two daughters, Trudy and Cheryl. In 1962 they came to settle in Nanaimo and she fell in love with the city.
Vonnie was an avid gardener, artist, musician and volunteer. As a member of the up to 10 musicians in the Over the Hill Band she had many gigs around Nanaimo bringing joy and laughter to each event. Even her little dog Tish had a roll singing in the band. Her 30 years of volunteering was extremely rewarding.
From her last home there was often delicious cooking smells or the sound of her piano playing in the hallway and outside. Her plants and flowers were all well tended and a pot of tea ready for any one who could come over for a visit. She always made sure to feed everyone that came through the door too. She had such a zest for life and living in her way.
Vonnie was predeceased by her grandson Kyron Hadley in 1994 and son-in-law Platon Datos in 2009. And too many others to mention when your lucky enough to live so long.
Survived by her two daughters: Trudy Datos in Port McNeill, her sons Jody (Victoria) and Dino (Julie) and their family Kyarra and Matthew. Cheryl Hadley in Clive, AB, her sons Valane (Marlise) and family Luca, Joey and Ella in Calgary, AB and Layvon (Stephanie) and family Stephen and Beau in Stettler, AB.
In memory donations can be make to St. Andrews United Church, 311 Fitzwilliam St. Nanaimo, V9R 3A6.
Due to many of her friends and family not being able to attend, because they decided to beat her to the Pearly Gates, a private family Celebration of Life will be held in lieu of a service. She will be interred in Red Willow Cemetery with mom, dad and numerous family and friends.
