November 26, 1936 - April 12, 2021
Larry was born in Killian Alberta, the youngest of five children to Melvin and Alberta Combs. Three years later the family moved to Lac La Biche to establish roots in the fur trade.
Larry was eleven when the family moved to Saanich to build a mink ranch which would soon become well known for producing award winning fur pelts. Larry enjoyed the rural life in Saanich until 1968 when he started his own successful mink ranch with his young family on a beautiful acreage in Cowichan Station along the Koksilah River.
Living in Cowichan Station made for a lifetime of fond memories for the family. Larry retired from mink ranching in 1978 to pursue another successful career, this time in real estate; a career that would lead to many long-time friendships. Retiring at 59 allowed Larry the freedom of time to enjoy his hobbies of, boating, fishing, hunting, model building and of course camping at Ralph River in Strathcona Park.
Larry enjoyed his walks along Stevedore Road and out to the docks wearing his safety vest, feeding the crows and chatting it up with workers from Western Stevedoring and Pacific Industrial Marine.
Larry was predeceased by his parents, Melvin and Alberta, sisters Hazel and Lucille and long-time partner Jean Greaves. He is survived by his siblings, Lorne and Opal, children Dale (Kathleen), Terry (Carol), Barry (Julie) and Pam. Nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Larry was grateful for having the opportunity to have one last chat with many of his friends and family and has requested no service.
The family would like to thank the neighbours for their kind words, the special card and flowers and the doctors involved in Larry's final days; Dr. McGregor, Dr. Masuda, and Dr. Gisela Wenzel Smith of the M.A.I.D. program.
