July 17, 1925 – August 17, 2020
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our cherished father, Klaus von Poser und Gross-Naedlitz. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him and will never be forgotten.
Klaus was born and raised in Bingerau, Silesia, Germany. Here he learned to work hard, and play hard.
An avid equestrian, he trained horses with his brothers and father, while finding time to enjoy skiing, rowing, and other outdoor activities in his free time.
Klaus was an identical twin and much of his young life was spent playing fun-loving tricks on family, friends, and school teachers, who often struggled to tell the two apart.
Klaus immigrated to Canada in 1951. Soon after, he moved west to Campbell River on the invitation of a friend.
He fell in love with this rugged west coast town and decided to set down roots, bringing his beloved Elisabeth over from Germany to join him the following year.
The two married shortly after her arrival and grew their life together here for the next 68 years, until her passing earlier this month.
Klaus’ early life experiences laid the foundation of who he was: a gentleman, a great friend, an eternal optimist, an adventurer, and a role model for our family. There was no problem too great, no ski run too hard, and no adventure not worth trying.
He encouraged us to enjoy life, and to explore and experience the world around us. He taught us to appreciate the beauty and exhilaration found in nature — climbing mountains, skiing in fresh powder, kayaking the fjords, riding horses, and hunting in the deep wilderness.
Always one to volunteer his time and energy, Klaus was an active member of the Campbell River community. In his nearly 70 years as a resident, he always found ways to give back.
He was a member of the volunteer fire department, a co-founder of Mount Washington, and a long-time Rotarian. This was his way of solidifying deep roots in the community he loved and called home.
Klaus is survived by his 3 children, Nick (Lynda), Sabine (Tom) and Claudia (Dave); 8 grandchildren (Marcus, Sonja, Amanda, Ryan, Erika, Richard, Cameron, & Emily); 8 soon-to-be 9 great-grandchildren; and family in Germany.
The family will host a private service to honour Klaus, and a larger celebration of life will follow in the future.
