September 27, 1945 - May 3, 2020
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Kenneth Vernon Fredrick Champagne, May 3, 2021. Ken was born September 27, 1945 in Calgary, Alberta, moving his family to Vancouver Island in 1980.
He leaves his beloved wife of 54 years, Barbara and his four children Fred, (partner Shannon Boisjoli) Shannon (son in-law Dale McVeigh), Randy (daughter in-law Michelle) and Lee (daughter in-law Stephanie). Grandchildren - Miranda, Tyler & Ashley Champagne (partner Tyler Knutsvik), Alex (partner Cheyanne Speck) & Stephen Kioussis, Mitchell, Austin & Cassidy Champagne and Great grandchildren Holly Kioussis, Paxton & Kamryn Knutsvik.
Ken had a wide range of interests which all his children and grandchildren shared with him. He worked on his vehicles, raced motorcycles and stock cars, enjoyed flying his remote control planes and helicopters, he trained his ponies and miniature horses to pull wagons. Ken also loved music, he played the dobro and guitar and taught himself to play the piano at age 60.
The last 14 years he would be seen with his little buddy, Yorkshire Terrier Sherman, riding on his mobility scooter almost everyday. He loved Ladysmith and spent many hours enjoying Transfer Beach. Ken and Sherman are united again after one year.
We have all been so privileged to have had such a loving husband, dad, grandpa and great grandpa. His love of his family, animals and love of life and fun will remain with us forever.
