April 22, 1942 - December 12, 2020
It is with grieving hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Ken on Sat., Dec. 12, 2020 at C.R. Hospital. He is predeceased by his daughters, Sherilee (1965) and Wanda (1981), brother Wayne and sister-in-law Doreen.
His memory will forever be cherished by his wife, Marlene of C.R., daughter Kathy (Mike) Schmidt, granddaughter Caitlyn (Mitchell) Schmidt, grandsons: Kenny (Cassie) Schmidt, Trevor (Tabitha) Schmidt, great granddaughters, Vayda & Dalice Vincent, all of Sayward. He also leaves behind his sister Connie (Murray) Chester and family in Manitoba and brother-in-law Merv (Peg) Watkins and families in C.R. and Manitoba.
Ken was born and raised in Crystal City, Manitoba, where he met and married Marlene Watkins in 1961. They had three daughters. Moved to C.R. in 1966 and began an adventuresome life - construction, operating machines and a sport fishing guide.
Moved to Rendezvous Island in the 1980s where he loved commercial cod fishing and sport fishing. Eventually moved to Stuart Island, as caretakers full time until retirement in 2003.
Travelled to many places in Canada, U.S. and Mexico. He loved his family, spending time with them and friends was most important part of his life, - hunting, fishing, Rving, playing cards, reading, casino, telling stories. He will remain forever a part of our lives.
Thank you to Dr. Stephen Lebeuf and the nurses on 3B for their compassionate care when Ken had the strokes.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in his memory to "a home away from home" for sick children in C.R. - Christine Dionne, 250-940-4950 ext 110, Children Health Foundation of Vancouver Island.
