In loving memory ~
It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Kenneth "Skip" MacDonald. Skip passed away peacefully surrounded by his family.
Skip is survived by his loving wife, Peggy, of 66 years; son Kyle (Darlene), daughter Zenna and grandson Grayson.
Skip was predeceased by his son, Gregor; sisters Blanche and Pearl; and brother, Jack.
Skip was born on October 27, 1932 in Unity, Saskatchewan to Neil and Myrtle MacDonald. At a young age he and his family moved from Unity to Prince Rupert before settling in Campbell River in 1946.
Skip and his father owned a gravel trucking business prior to taking over the garbage disposal contract for the village of Campbell River. In 1956, Skip bought the Bee Hive Cafe with his longtime friend, Bob Lewis, prior to having sole proprietorship. In 1974, Skip purchased the Dairy Queen and ran it for 12 years. He built the new Bee Hive building in 1988 before selling and retiring in 1995.
Skip was Reeve in Campbell River in 1967 and 1968, Mayor from 1969-1970 and Alderman from 1972-1974. In 2007, Skip was given a Community Builder Award in recognition and appreciation of his fine qualities of mind and personality and the eminent public services rendered by him to the city of Campbell River.
Skip had a passion for playing baseball and soccer in his younger years. He was a very social individual who loved family gatherings, meeting friends for coffee, playing golf and bridge and ballroom dancing. He also loved keeping abreast of current events by reading newspapers daily and watching a couple of hours of nightly televised newscasts.
The MacDonald family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Naicker and the staff of Discovery Harbour Seniors Community for their care and compassion for Skip.
A memorial service in Skip's honour will be held on October 21st at 2:00 pm at the United Church in Campbell River with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a charity of your choice.
