November 24, 1931 - July 6, 2020
Ken passed away peacefully at Eden Gardens, Nanaimo, B.C. on July 6, 2020. He was born in Birmingham, England on November 24, 1931. He was 1 of 11 children. He was predeceased by his loving wife Muriel (February 29, 2016).
Ken worked for Macmillan & Bloedel - Harmac until he retired in 1995. His nickname at work was Teabag. Ken got this name by tossing teabags from the chip silos, hitting a foreman.
Dad loved hockey and soccer. He coached the Sundowner soccer team from Division 10 to Division 1 along with coaches Walter Bell, Ted Dorsay and proudly, his son Roy. They were the first team to go to the Sun Cup final in Vancouver that were from Vancouver Island, a great achievement in those years. Sadly a 1-0 loss. Ken also had a tryout with the Birmingham City reserve team in England.
Ken leaves behind his son Roy (Cora), Sister-in-law Dot, nephews Andrew and Rick, grandchildren Candice, Priscilla and great grandchildren Ava, Che, Kalem and Hannah. Numerous sisters and brothers remain in England.
Dad's favourite drink was Lucky Lager, which kept him alive all those years.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday August 15, 2020 at 3 pm 456 Watfield Avenue Nanaimo, B.C. Please RSVP by phone (250 741-0052). The gathering will be held in the backyard for Covid safety. Please bring your own chairs and masks if you wish.
A sincere thanks to the staff at Eden Gardens for their compassionate care and a special thanks to Scott (Steve) and Brenda. Online condolences may be offered at www.firstmemorialnanaimo.com
