February 1, 1948 - November 6, 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce that Kenneth Earl Ausmus passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital at the age of 71. He was predeceased by his parents Helen and Boyd Ausmus. Ken will be greatly missed by his loving family, including Sandra and three daughters, Lisa, Tara (Adrian), and Alana (Patrick), his grandsons, Ben and Owen as well as his extended family.
Ken was born in Vancouver and grew up in Port Alberni where he lived until 1973, when he moved to Nanaimo to raise his family. Spooky was a proud member of the Nanaimo Fire Department for 28 years, where he retired having achieved the rank of Platoon Captain. Through the fire department he made several deep friendships that lasted well after retirement.
He had a passion for the outdoors, including skiing, camping and boating - although he did not like to swim. Ken had a unique sense of humour and will be fondly remembered for his many stories and good conversation with friends and family. To be honest though, he liked to chat with anyone he met. He had a generous heart and was always making his grandchildren smile and laugh. As dad would say "Life is about family, health and happiness."
There will be a private family celebration to honour Ken's life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ken's memory to Vancouver Children's Hospital.
