Kenneth Arthur Herlinveaux

February 20, 2019

It is with much sadness, we say farewell to a father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Kenneth Arthur Herlinveaux, who passed away peacefully on February 20, 2019 at the Discovery Harbour Care Centre in Campbell River, B.C.

Predeceased by the love his life, Anne, father Joseph Herlinveaux, mother Joan Zizac, stepfather Jack Hulme, brother and sister-in-law Richard (Dick) and Thelma, and son-in-law James Farrell. He leaves behind his loving daughter Mary Anne, grandson Sean (Danica), sister Jill (Ted) Coulthard, his nieces and nephews, and his faithful companion Tucker.

Ken was born in Ladysmith, B.C. on November 10, 1927 where he attended school. He and his brother were always bringing home stray dogs, rabbits, one called Churchill, and only once a very old stray horse. They also conducted science experiments in the basement, much to their mother's dismay.

Ken joined the Navy in October 1945 as a seaman and was discharged in October 1947. After leaving, he worked on a herring investigation project at the Pacific Biological Station in Nanaimo, where he met Anne and they were married in Rossland, B.C. on February 6, 1951. He worked as a land surveyor for a time and eventually moved to Campbell River where he worked at the Elk Falls Pulp and Paper Mill in the paper room until his retirement.

He was a member of the Campbell River Shriner's Club. Ken loved the outdoors where he fished in lakes, rivers and ocean, hunted and picked wild blackberries.

Ken was very gentle, kind, helpful, and a friend to many. He was well known for his laugh, which was one of a kind. Whenever you heard that laugh, you knew Ken was there. He had a great sense of humour. He always welcomed you into their home where there was a good time to be had by all. He loved life and lived it well. He always said he and Anne were meant to be together, and they are once again united.

We will be taking part in a Celebration of Life on March 28th at 2:00 pm at the Discovery Harbour Care Centre, 850 14th Avenue, Campbell River. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.

Special thanks to the staff at the Discovery Harbour Care Centre for their excellent care and friendship, Dr. Prinsloo, and special friend Sylvia.
