May 3, 1963 - August 12, 2022

In loving memory ~
Kathy Maclean was born on May 3, 1963 in Nipawin Saskatchewan and passed away August 12, 2022 with her loving family by her side in the comfort of Ty Watson House Port Alberni, BC. Kathy is predeceased by parents Emma and Delmar and father-in-law Byron. Kathy is survived by loving husband Shon, son Keith ( Margaret); grandson Liam; sister's Betty (Fabian) and Marilynn (Garry); brother Charles (Lois) Rutledge, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Kathy spent her early years growing up on a farm in Garrick Saskatchewan before finding her way to Victoria BC to help manage two Mr Mikes Restaurants. Other opportunities lead Kathy to Port Alberni ultimately finding employment at the Barclay Hotel where she spent the last 30 years of her working life. During her tenure at the Barclay, Kathy started as a server in BB"s Pub and eventually took on the managerial role in Pastimes Sports Bar. Kathy thrived working in Pastimes. Always giving her very best to her customers and friends regardless of her struggles even as she endured through her decade long battle with Parkinson's Disease, heart attacks, breast cancer and ultimately bone cancer. Doctors figured that Kathy worked 6-8 weeks with a fractured pelvis due to her cancer, a true testament of her character, she always placed everyone's needs first.
Friends and customers all will remember her shenanigans. Whether ear tweaks, wet willies, squirt gun shots in the air or hiding on Tracy at shift changed scaring the tar out of her. Packing full trays, remembering guests preferences from the previous year while always looking for a laugh and banter. Her love of children empowered her to be always looking for fund raising opportunities to help the less fortunate. During our 30 years together, Kathy raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to help house and feed disadvantaged mothers and children, all with out looking for any recognition.
Kathy's smile, love, devotion, dedication, kindness, compassion, empathy and selflessness will never be forgotten. Absolutely genuine, even as the cancer was stealing everything away, Kathy kept smiling, loving, looking for laughter and refusing to give up, fighting to the very end. Kathy's devotion as a wife, mother, ommi (grandmother), friend and employee goes unsurpassed, giving all her very best with her only desire in return was the connection of love with family and friends. Family was everything to Kathy, all that mattered was that they were together.
The family of Kathleen would like to say thank you to all those that shared their love and support during the last two months of Kathy's life, Annette, Janice, Terri, Caroline all were there to spend time bringing light into our lives. A huge thank you to the great people at Ty Watson House especially Kaj, Heather, Lindsay, Tanya, Kim and Mike. Rest in peace my love, thank you for all the love you shared with us, until we meet again.
Cremation has taken place, a Celebration of life will be held at a later date based on family attendance windows and will be announced. If you choose, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to Diabetes Association, Parkinson's Walk, Ty Watson House or random acts of kindness in Kathy's honor.
