It's with a heavy heart and great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Kathryn Ann Anderberg. She passed peacefully in her sleep at home on Oct 12th, 2020.
She is survived by her daughter, Lori Baldwin, granddaughter Caitlin Baldwin, Brother Alec (Sam) Caldwell and sister Thelma Lund. She is also remembered by her nephew Kim Cote (Debra) from Parksville, BC and his family. She had several friends and extended chosen family including the Maddock family from Naniamo via Scotland.
She was born in Hamilton, Ontario on February 14th, 1935 and was 85 years old but young at heart at the time of her passing. Her childhood was influenced by the Great Depression of the 30's and World War II. She grew up with a large family of aunts, uncles and cousins around, often living with several family members in one home to make life easier for all during those difficult times.
She did not finish high school but got her GED many years later.
In 1963 she moved to Edmonton, Alberta. That was where she met her husband of over 50 years, John Martin (Andy) Anderberg. Most of their life together was spent in the Comox Valley after Andy's posting here in 1967. They bought their dream home in Comox in 1976 and that is were they planned to stay until the end as Kay did.
Kay held many jobs over the years. She was a waitress, taxi dispatcher, care aid and book keeper to name a few. She retired in 1996 after working at Glacier View Lodge almost 20 years.
Kay was very generous with her time and energy and belonged to the Rebecca's, the Royal Purple and the Comox Legion Ladies Auxilary. She also volunteered for several local events and organizations. Giving to the community was very important to her. She felt we all need to help out to make this world a better place.
Kay was a terrific friend and once you came into her life you were part of it! Not always near, but never forgotten. Not many people can say they have friends for 50 - 60 years but she could. Several in fact, and all were important to her.
Kay loved to cook, bake, knit, making cards for all occasions and sew. She dabbled in many other crafts and sold her wares at craft sales around the valley for many years. Even as she was losing her eye sight she continued to create. She could no longer knit sweaters but still made dishcloths until the end. Many neighbours and friends enjoyed her food gifts. If she was making pie she always made 3 or 4 and shared them all around the neighbourhood and beyond.
She was living with Lori and Caitlin in her home for the last 2 years of her life. During this time they were able to go on a few wonderful adventures together including a cruise to the eastern Caribbean in December of 2018. Something Kay always wanted to do!
Kay was a woman who tried to live life to the fullest and "One day at a time"! Hugged everyone she could! Always had a smile on her face and hope in her heart. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Rest easy mom! Be at peace with dad. We love you and will miss you always.
