In loving memory ~
With profound sadness, we announce that Karen Learmonth of Nanaimo passed away on March 6th, 2023 at the age of 64. She went peacefully with her family at her side while listening to her favourite Elton John songs.
Karen was born in Winnipeg as the first of three children to Brian and Lorraine Dandurand. While she had many hobbies and interests early in life, it was her passion for playing the drums that became her hallmark, leading her to play and tour professionally. Over the course of her life, she became known as a talented artist, incredible musician, voracious reader, avid volunteer, active gardener, respected realtor, and a dear friend to so many. But beyond all of those titles, being called a wife, mother, and granny were the most important ones to her, and the ones she was most proud of. She was the center of her family, and always made family her priority.
Karen is survived by her husband of 45 years, Kim, her father Brian, her sons Jesse and Terry, her daughters-in-law Kellie and Stephanie, and her two grandchildren, Emilie and Elliot. She is predeceased by her mother Lorraine, her sister Tracy, and her brother Trevor. We can only imagine the fun they're all having together right now.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Karen's life on Saturday, March 25th at 1:00 p.m. at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Karen's memory to the Nanaimo Community Hospice Society.
Your candle burned out long before your legend ever did.
