June 7, 1944 - August 25, 2021
After a long, brave battle with Lupus, numerous complications, and then cancer, Karen died as she had lived—an independent spirit.
Karen was born in Montreal to John and Dolly Grieve. She spent her childhood in La Tuque PQ and Duncan BC, where she attended QMS and Cowichan High School.
Karen loved to try out different things, and her work as an admin assistant allowed her the variety she needed. Whatever she did, she did with skill and enthusiasm, whether it was horseback riding, rally car racing, working for the 1994 Commonwealth games, traveling to Australia, studying Buddhism and meeting the Dalai Lama, or cross-stitching.
She loved horses and cats, and read voraciously. Although she did not marry or have children, she made many good friends who will miss her dearly.
Karen is survived by her sisters, Andrea and Cynde (Moh Hardin), Cynde's children Lesley (Aaron), Evan Figueroa (Hayley), and step-son Justin Hardin, plus several nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to the doctors and nurses of Royal Jubilee Hospital, the Community nurses and health care workers, and especially to her friends who looked after her in her last few months.
By her request, there will be no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in her name to a charity of your choice.
