September 26, 1930 - January 7, 2021
Juliana was born and raised in Germany, where she also trained as a Social Worker, before immigrating to Canada. It was in Fort Vermillion that Juliana met and married Hans Kratz and where their three beloved children - Martin, Peter and Karin were born. After a move to Sherwood Park, Juliana was able to continue her career in Social Work.
Retiring to Qualicum Beach in 1993, Juliana's deep and warm-hearted concern for Indigenous people led to close ties. Juliana worked passionately for social and environmental Justice through Kairos, and Grandmothers-to-Grandmothers.
She also took an active interest in the Wildlife Recovery Centre and Milner Gardens.
Believing strongly in the inherent goodness and dignity of every human being, Juliana lived with an exuberance of spirit. As in life, she died with gratitude for the family and friends who graced her life. She was also grateful for the doctors and nurses and for the management and staff at The Gardens, who helped her through her last few days.
Juliana will be missed by many.
In her memory, donations may be made to the North Island Wildlife Recovery Centre 1240 Leffler Road, Errington, BC.
