Judy was born to Evelyn & Lawrence MacAauley in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan. Growing up on her family farm near Simmie where, "all roads lead to Simmie". Judy's childhood years were spent going to and from a one room schoolhouse on her loyal horse Robert before attending high school in Gull Lake.
This is when she met her future husband, Garth. Truly growing up and old together, Judy & Garth were married in 1959 in Medicine Hat. After three children, they moved to Prince Rupert, BC in 1965 where their fourth child was born. Eleven years later, they moved to Nanaimo where they have lived ever since.
Judy was a stay-at-home mom until their youngest started school, and she went to work as a library assistant at Seal Cove school in Rupert. She didn't work in Nanaimo until she and her friend Donna had finished exploring Vancouver Island. She then worked outside the home in retail before retiring in 1986 when the store closed.
Known for being crafty, she was proficient at paper tole and ceramics before discovering her passion for producing quilts for family & friends from Newfoundland to BC and in the US. Judy also spent many years in her garden growing fruit, vegetables, and flowers. She was prolific in producing delicious preserves, canning, and baking.
Judy was always up for adventure, like the time in 1975, she ventured off in the motorhome with her 4 children to Saskatchewan to visit family for the summer After the kids left home, Judy & Garth spent many winters in their various RVs travelling the backroads of the southern US. After Garth retired in 2005, they spent their winters at the Fountain of Youth Resort & Spa and most summers on the Prairies with family & friends.
Judy had a positive outlook on life and easily made friends wherever she went. She was always happiest at the many family gatherings with her kids, grandkids & great-grandkids who lovingly call her GG.
Judy is survived by her loving spouse of 62 years, Garth; her children Kim (Bruce), Kevin (Patty), Brad (Janet), pre-deceased by her youngest son, Richard (Tara); Grandkids Ashley (Mark), Keith (Jo), Jenn (Matt), Erin M, Sierra, Kevanna, Blair (Chelsey), Erin H (Lorenzo), Quinn, Teri (Mike), Jaclyn, Jenna (Aaron); Great Grandkids Daxson, Oliver, Capri, Griffin, Danae, Draydon, Rowan, Grayson & Carter. Sisters; Joan and Cheryl (Stan), Brothers; Pete (Lise), Greg (Sherri), Brother-in-law Neil (Heather) and numerous nieces and nephews.
At her request, there will be no service. We will share a celebration of life when it's safe to do so. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Nanaimo Loaves & Fishes Food Bank and/or Nanaimo SPCA.
