It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Joseph Peterec on June 20th at the age of 88.
Pre-deceased by his parents and 3 sisters in Slovenia, his brothers-in-law's Steve Sumen, Mat Sumen and Carlo D'Arsie.
He is survived by his family comprised of his loving wife of 68 years Teresa, sons Joe (Michelle) and Stan, grandchildren Mike (Sue), Shane and Curtis, great-grandchildren Cash and Hudson, Sister-in-laws Olga Sumen and Olga D'Arsie, nieces Irene, Irena, Nada and Sylvia. Nephews Matt, Steve and Peter, and a great uncle to Brandon, Shelby, Nathan, Ryan, Erika and Carly.
Joe was born and raised in Slovenia and immigrated to Canada with his wife in 1957. After a short stay in Victoria, they moved to Port Alberni where he got a job at the Somas Mill, where he stayed until he retired 40 years later.
Joe always loved to attend his son's sporting events. He would travel everywhere to watch them play hockey or a kick-boxing event. He was so proud of them. He loved to fish and hunt with his partner in crime, his brother-in-law, Mat Sumen - they were always together, which left a void in his heart where he passed away. He was always busy working on something, unless of course it was hockey season and the Toronto Maple Leafs were playing, as he was a die-hard Leafs fan.
He was a man of integrity, logical, calm, gentle and had a great sense of humor and was always there if you needed help.
We wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. DePape, and the doctors and nurses at Ty Watson house for the great care he received. Also, a thank you to all the friends and family for the cards and flowers, and to Jerry Fevens, who took the time to get Joe to his town appointments. Thank you everyone.
A celebration of life will be determined at a later date.
Beloved husband, dad, grampa, great- grampa, uncle and friend! Joe is and always will be missed very much.
