February 11, 1936 - August 30, 2020
We will sadly miss Joyce who went home to her Lord and Saviour on August 30th at the age of 84.
Joyce was predeceased by her parents, her brother David, sister Kathy (Ian) Wilson, beloved husband Don, and her only son Michael.
She leaves behind her sister Judy (Bob) Boswell, sister-in-law Margie McColm, daughter Tammie (Herb) Baragar, daughter-in-law Alicia Stainton, three grandchildren Michael Baragar, David and Michelle Stainton, and two great-granddaughters Zarayah and Genesis Baragar. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Joyce was born in Chicoutimi, Quebec. It was in Quebec City that she met and married her husband, Donald Halsey Stainton, who was then in the Royal Canadian Air Force. They went on to be stationed in Trenton and Ottawa, Ontario and finally Edmonton, Alberta where Don retired from the Air Force in 1973.
They moved to Blind Bay, B.C. where they owned and operated the Shuswap KOA campground and then Salmon Arm Paving Company. In 1981 they purchased the Parksville Esso on Vancouver Island, operating it for seven years. They settled in Qualicum Beach, BC.
Joyce lived for and loved the Lord, her family and her many friends. After Don passed in 2011 and now having medical issues that affected her mobility Joyce moved to The Gardens in Qualicum Beach. She really enjoyed life there, especially liked not having to cook her own meals (LOL).
Our Heartfelt Thanks go out to all the staff of The Gardens at Qualicum Beach for their compassion and care to Joyce, both when she was independently living in her condo and the last year in complex care. And a big Thank You to Joyce's care givers from Bayshore Home Health who made her life a little easier and brought cheer to her daily until that was unfortunately deemed a non-essential service during this Covid-19 pandemic.
There will be no public service at this time because of the restrictive pandemic conditions. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
If it is on your heart to do something in memory of Joyce, in lieu of flowers or donations, please reach out in some way to show your love and bring cheer to someone who is forced to be in this pandemic created isolation away from their family and friends. Thank you.
