In Loving Memory ~
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of John Kalhous. He is survived by his loving wife, Hana, and two sons John (Claudia) and Tom (Amanda) as well as six grandkids (Kayla, Joshua, Emma, Nastasha, Brianna and Julia... which he loved with all his heart) and his family in the Czech Republic.
It was John's biggest dream to leave communism in search of freedom for his children. He fulfilled that dream when the family immigrated to Canada in 1972. Thanks to his courage, Him and Mom (at the young age of 23) left everything and everyone they loved back in Czechoslovakia. Prior to their arrival in Canada, they traveled around Africa for three years where their two boys were born. After working for two years near the Yukon border, the family went on a vacation to Long Beach, stopping at Sproat Lake Provincial Park for lunch. It was at this moment when they decided that Sproat Lake was where they were going to live and raise their family.
John worked at the Paper Mill for over 30 years. When he wasn't working, he spent his free time mostly at the soccer fields playing, coaching, and cheering on his sons. John also loved curling, fishing, camping and traveling with his family. Later in his life, he enjoyed those same activities with his grandkids that he loved so much.
We would like to thank Krissy and the other nurses from the Home Care Nursing Program for keeping Dad comfortable at home. Also, we would like to thank the entire wonderful staff at the Ty Watson Hospice House for taking such amazing care of Dad during his last few days. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ty Watson House.
A celebration of life will be arranged at a later date.
