March 20, 1934 - January 29, 2023
In loving memory ~
John leaves behind his devoted wife Margaret (nee Wyman), and three daughters Jean, Kathy, and Laura-Lynn (Yves, whom he loved as his own). He is now reunited with his beloved son, Jack.
He adored his grandchildren and while he did not get to meet his great-grandchildren, their pictures were pored over with love.
John will be missed by many close family and friends. He kept in very close touch with those he loved dearly - his sisters Laura and Betty, beloved niece Noreen and all extended family back in Ireland. His best friend Peter Brennan and wife Carmel (RIP), and their children were treasured. He forged close relationships with Margaret's family as well. All in his orbit felt his warmth.
John was a man of many passions. The greatest of all was his beloved wife, Margaret. His love for her sparked a fire that grew in warmth and light over the 65 years that spanned their incredible story.
John aimed his laser focus and mastery on a wide array of interests. He built an extraordinarily successful business with Margaret as his equal partner. He trained and competed with field retrievers, hunted and loved fly fishing and fell in love with golf. John found deep meaning and excitement within all of his endeavours. Manchester United have lost their most ardent fan.
Fascinated, fascinating and endlessly curious, he was an eloquent, thoughtful conversationalist. His humour was legendary and being with him was routinely punctuated by outbursts of laughter. John was a lifelong learner and his opinions and thoughts were always evolving. He died a wise man.
John was a proud man, and nothing made him prouder than his family. He did not have an easy life - tragedy visited him many times. In his last years, he gathered his family to him and made sure we knew the deep respect and love he held for us all. He died with few regrets.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to The Alzheimer's Society of Canada in honour of John's daughter, Kathy Collins.
