July 8, 2021
Passed away on July 8, 2021, at the age of 76. After a life well-lived, working hard, volunteering, and living life to the fullest, it was time for John to leave us. He loved people and had a natural gift to ensure those around him knew that they were important and valued.
John is survived by his wife Jorgina Little, his 3 children Shane (Stephanie) Robilliard, Kim Robilliard, and Jeromy (Emma) Ball, 9 grandchildren Davyn, Winter, Jakob, Presley, Kinsley, Dannilyn, Hudson, Liv, and Havana. His first wife Loretta and former partner Lisa Domstad (Ball) as well as so many friends he loved deeply.
He was predeceased by parents Violet Lillian and John Isaac Robilliard.
John was born in Victoria, BC. In his early childhood, they lived on a float-house tucked into Valdes Island. He'd travel by boat to attend school on Gabriola Island. When he was too old to attend this school, his mom moved them to Nanaimo where he would graduate from high school and trade school as a Red Seal Mechanic.
John went on to apprentice with Jack Norrish Safety Centre in Nanaimo. Soon after, John was offered the opportunity to purchase the franchise in Campbell River, and of course, he went for it. His career would last four decades providing exceptional service while wearing his flip flops.
John always had to stay busy, so after retiring from the shop, he continued to work into his 70's including Painter's Lodge and Heritage Gold.
John believed in giving back, often with a focus on empowering youth. At the shop, he was able to mentor apprentices and work experience students. He dedicated 40+ years to Scouts and was involved in numerous service clubs and causes including Rotary and Masons.
Anyone who had the opportunity to spend time with John knows that, whether you were a customer at the shop, a youth in scouting, or a friend, he could make you feel cared for and special in a very short time. His kind soul will be missed.
And then there was Johnny Racer in car #44 who held many track Championships including an Island Series in 1977. John started racing in 1969 and he retired for good in 1981.
Over the years, John took home countless trophies, awards, and recognitions for his good work and community service. What he valued the most was the lifelong friendships created through all of his endeavours. Although, he was particularly proud of being the winner of the 'Best Buns' contest!
In retirement, John and Jorge were able to travel to Europe, Asia, the United States, and Mexico. They could also now spend the majority of their time at their cabin on Read Island. With help from friends, John created a magical place and the best memories with friends, family, and especially the grandchildren. It was here that John was truly at peace and content.
Our family would like to thank the amazing medical professionals that provided such incredible care for John over the last few years. You allowed John to keep living an active and full life right to the end. We will be forever grateful!
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. If you would like to be notified directly, or have a story or photo to share please email SheerPoint@gmail.com
